About Me
I am a transplanted El Pasoan, first born in the state of Maryland to Army parents who moved frequently until I was twelve years old. I attended Eastwood Junior High and graduated from Eastwood High School, both in the Ysleta school district. I am now a single mother of five children, two of whom still live at home. I am employed with the Ysleta district as an attendance clerk and registrar at the same elementary school my own children have attended and have become an advocate of the dual language program through personal experience and research of how the program is structured and implemented. I am also active in my church and enjoy teaching catechism classes to second graders learning about the sacraments.
I am an avid reader and movie watcher, and share this passion with people in conversation. I often find myself recommending new books after hearing what someone is currently reading and love to compare the written version to the one on screen. Writing has always come easily to me and, as I continue with my college education, I rely on the strategies shared with me from some amazing teachers in middle and high school. I now find that my life experiences strengthen my writing and I often have a lot to say about topics close to my heart.
This portfolio has been created to showcase essays written for my English 3365 class – Composition and Rhetoric. The autobiographical essay discusses my love of learning and how education has been a major part of my own life. The informational essay presents key points and benefits obtained from a dual language education. Finally, the persuasive essay addresses the many advantages provided by learning to swim during early childhood. God and family are the staples of my life and, therefore, are reflected in almost everything I do.
